dimanche le 4 janvier

i spent the last 2 days in a hotel in the middle of montpellier with a bunch of other american students, mostly from UMN or penn state. i have spent tons of time exploring the city- i'd say it is the most beautiful that i have ever had the opporunity to explore. i have no batteries for my camera, but when the others put their pictures up on facebook, i'll send you my favorites. today, i woke up at 5:40 or so, since my schedule is all out of wack still, and explored the city for about 3 or 4 hours (longer than i've ever felt compelled to explore a city, not counting new york, because then i was just lost) looking for a place from which i could watch the sun rise, but the very best spot in town (on top of la curome) was closed, and i eventually decided i didn't want to break a leg or get arrested trying to climb the gate just hours before meeting my family. i met the rest of my host family (i met my mama, Evelyn, yesterday, because she was at orientation, because she is the director of housing for the program). incredible folks!!! i met my new papa, Bruno; my sisters, Marine et Celine, and my little brother, Guillaume.

what an incredible family, and what an incredible time i've had so far, just in this one day. basically, i was taken home, showed around the house, fed, allowed a nap, followed by a celebration of "l'épiphany" (more delicious food) with the grandparents (everyone loved the gifts), then some guitaring, and more food, and after this, more sleep. i have been very gracious, helping out with whatever i can and being as clean and polite as i can. i am really treated like family. awesome!
