time is flying here. when i think about the events of a week ago, it feels like yesterday. uh oh!
two nights ago i was invited out with a group of french students. at one point there were about 17 of us hanging out at a cafe in montpellier. later on, i went with a smaller group to a bar to chat get drinks and chat some more. i had a great time! i think i got some extra attention for being american - people wanted to speak english with me and hear about life in the states.
everyone there was either in my Paleoenvironment class or my Urban Planning class. suddenly friendship is a factor in deciding which of the two classes im going to drop... my schedule is a little heavy right now.
last night, i went to a pickup ice hockey game with a guy named Bruno i met through ultimate. i had to rent skates and borrow a stick that was about a foot shorter than i am used to, but i still did pretty well. what a blast! and it only cost 4.50 euros to play. i'm pretty sure i'll be going every week. now i just need my own (adult-sized) stick.
most recently: i had a very exciting (a very difficult emotion to express in french without adding a sexual connotation) morning. my 8:15-10:15 class, Paléoenvironnement, was the first session of an integrated (with all french students) class in which i really kept up with the lecture. i learned about glaciers and how to identify the visible traces they leave on mountain ranges. it think it helped that the lecture was extra visual and interactive in a way - the professor would project a photo on the whiteboard, then outline with a pen the features he was explaining. the other super-helpful factor was this nice girl sitting next to me named Lea (who was in the group i went out with the other night) who explained to me throughout the class some concepts but mostly vocabulary that i didn't understand. it was a very enriching and enjoyable experience.

now i think i'll go for a baguette sandwich (at a great little cafe my friend Katie, who lived with the Bassouls before i did, suggested. 2 euros a sandwich!) then go to ULTIMATE FRISBEE CLASS!
